2014 Dimensions Track Information

As an attendee at Dimensions 2014, you have the opportunity to choose from a variety of sessions within the following tracks with many of these sessions qualifying for Professional Development Hours (PDH). These educational tracks ensure that you get all the information you expect from this leading conference.

The track will cover innovations in 3D laser scanning as well as 3D modeling office software solutions that help you implement BIM throughout your business.       Track 7: Comprehensive Software Solutions for Managing the Entire Design-Build-Operate Lifecycle of Facilities for Building Owners/Occupier

      The Owner/Operator Track highlights the latest technology innovations in Trimble's products for managing the Design-Build-Operate lifecycle of buildings and workplaces. If you build, own and manage a portfolio of facilities, this track will provide you with a host of new and innovative strategies for increasing organizational effectiveness of your resources. Attendees will have ample opportunity to learn from Trimble colleagues and peers through networking and roundtable discussions, while leaning practical tips and tricks, workflow improvements and new technologies for reducing the total cost of occupancy (TCO).

      Track 8: Applying SketchUp Pro

      Designed for professionals with a basic understanding of 3D modeling, this track explores the innovative ways in which SketchUp Pro is being implemented within multi-stakeholder building information modeling projects. In one-hour presentation sessions, you will hear from practicing SketchUp Pro experts about the utilization of modeling and documentation technologies in the context of conceptual design, construction management, information modeling, scanning, and scripting.

      Track 1: Solutions for Estimators, Civil and Project Engineers

      Accurate and timely digital designs are fundamental to a heavy civil construction project. With the adoption of positioning technology, data preparation, management and tracking for the entire construction lifecycle is critical. This track looks at how civil and project engineers, as well as estimators and bidders can leverage Trimble's heavy civil construction software portfolio to create an accurate site design manage plan phasing and progress, make updates when needed, and easily share information across the entire project team. It also explores both the challenges that data can present on construction projects and how to leverage data for better decisions that decrease costly mistakes and increase productivity in the office and on the job site. Sessions will include a mix of classroom presentations, hands on at a computer lab and hands on at the offsite demo facility.       Track 2: Solutions for Project Managers, Operations and Tracking

      Monitoring and managing overall site productivity is critical for the entire project team from the engineering team, project managers and foremen to the equipment managers responsible for keeping crews working, machines producing, and the whole project running. However, it does not stop there; management of all equipment including laydown yard management is critical to the overall success and project outcome. This track explores how project and equipment managers can leverage Trimble Connected Site solutions for the centralization and simplification of operations – even when you are not on site. It will review tools that allow you to continuously monitor and record 3D earthmoving, grading, compaction and finishing operations throughout the life of the project for near real-time status of progress against the design. The track will also look at how knowing where the equipment is, and what it's doing allows for more proficient management of the entire fleet of machines, mobile and portable assets.       Taking control of your site positioning and measuring needs allows construction surveyors to perform work at every stage faster, with fewer errors and always make informed decision having the latest data. This track explores how Trimble Site Positioning Systems give construction surveyors and contractors the precision they need to stake, measure and monitor the site — with the workflows and rugged equipment to be efficient, predictable and profitable. Targeted at grade checkers, site engineers, site surveyors and survey technicians, project engineers and civil engineers, it will provide an in-depth look at how site-positioning technology improves control validation, as-built measurements, stake-out, grade checking, quality control and progress monitoring throughout the lifecycle of the construction project. Sessions will review how Trimble office software and field solutions are designed to work together in an integrated workflow to enable problem-solving in the field, track results and manage multiple job sites with ease. Whether you are on the job site, in your truck, or at the office, you can be connected and equipped with accurate data to ensure efficient use of job crews, sub-contractors, machines, and materials.       From getting the work to invoicing the customer, site and utility contractors can benefit from leveraging technology to ensure more accurate information and improve operational efficiency. This track explores how owner operators and smaller contractors can leverage new technology solutions and mobile apps from Trimble to more effectively manage their business. It will review tools that give small business owners greater control over quality and accuracy. Sessions will cover how construction technology can be used to track and document estimates, crew hours, material usage and improve machine efficiency. Additionally it will look at how Trimble's solutions can increase machine efficiency, operators' skill levels and enable crews to perform stakeout and grade checking tasks without the cost and delay of a contract surveyor.       Track 6: Solutions for Heavy Civil Earthmoving and Construction Contractors

      To be competitive, it is increasingly important that grading and excavating contractors leverage technology to significantly increase productivity, integrate workflows, streamline operations and reduce costs. Targeted at heavy civil contractors, grading and excavation contractors, project managers, foreman, and machine operators, this track looks at how the powerful portfolio of Trimble Connected Site solutions provides contractors with a competitive advantage through connected workflows and improved collaboration. Sessions will cover how contractors can effectively integrate data management and machine operations throughout the construction life cycle—from the bidding phase through planning and earthworks, as well as site-wide project and asset management. It will additionally review tools that allow for better monitoring, management and documentation of work performed to minimize construction costs and provide near real-time project status during all phases of construction.       Paving contractors are under increasing pressure to create more accurate and competitive bids, account for the high cost of materials and meet government or municipal authority's specific requirements. This track explores how paving contractors can leverage Trimble's breadth of paving solutions to speed up slipform and asphalt paving operations, lay a smoother surface and reduce material costs for both new road construction and road resurfacing. Sessions are targeted at individuals in companies and government organizations involved in milling, asphalt and slipform concrete paving operations. They will review how paving contractors can use Trimble solutions to create an accurate 3D model for use in the field by crews and machines, create faster and more accurate bids, mill surfaces to millimeter precision to avoid the need to fill with expensive materials, pave to the highest possible tolerances and place material precisely.       Track 8: Solutions for Specialty Contractors

      Specialty contractors face increasing challenges from more complex designs to more rigorous documentation. This track explores how Trimble technology can be leveraged to increase the safety, accuracy and efficiency of drilling, piling and waterway construction operations. Sessions targeted at managers, supervisors, operators, planners, production and equipment managers in drilling and blasting or piling, foundations, solar farm and geotechnical organizations will review how Trimble's drilling and piling solutions enable contractors to create accurate bids and digital 3D plans that can be updated on the fly, ensure precise positioning of the drilling or piling machine and generate automated, accurate reports for quality purposes and accurate billing. Sessions targeted at dredging operation managers, marine piling operation managers, marine crane operations managers, marine survey managers and marine excavation managers will review Trimble's waterway construction solutions — including the precise placement of structures such as breakwaters, bridges, caissons, piles, marina piers and coastal defenses, the positioning and tracking of barges, tugs and other construction vessels and offshore rig-positioning and anchor handling applications.       Track 9: Solutions for Quarry and Aggregates

      With the acquisition of Loadrite, Trimble greatly expanded its capabilities to drive productivity improvement for the Aggregates industry. This track provides an overview for quarry operations managers and owners, of how Trimble can help reduce costs, increase revenues, and improve customer satisfaction in the very competitive business of aggregates production. The track will explore how technology can help improve operational performance as well as capture the information needed to optimize the process in each of the three main zones of a quarry: extraction, production, and load-out. We will look at where technology can have the biggest impact by helping the people on the ground improve their performance. We will also look at how we can collect information about the process to drive continuous improvement. The common objective is reducing cost per ton by better managing energy consumption and equipment costs, while at the same time increasing revenue per ton by maximizing the amount of extracted material that is processed, ensuring that the right product is made, verifying that all materials are invoiced, and maximizing customer satisfaction.       Track 10: Ask the Expert – Heavy Civil Construction Products

      Designed for current users of Trimble Heavy Civil Construction products, these sessions provide an excellent opportunity for you to meet with Trimble experts and ask questions, review problem data sets or get a demonstration on how to do something. Sessions are limited to 20, so be sure to sign up early.

      Track 11: The Business Side of Adopting Technology

      Explore the latest technologies and the business impact of integrating positioning technology into your construction operations. This track is aimed at managers looking for a broad overview of the technologies available, what those technologies can do for their business—how they can effectively adopt and integrate positioning technologies, calculate the return on investment (ROI) and leverage technology across more of the organization. Sessions will include an overview of available technologies, how to overcome the operational challenges of adopting positioning technologies, how to structure your organization and how to measure and maximize return on investment for even higher profitability. The track will also cover how you can effectively leverage Trimble and SITECH to integrate Trimble's latest technologies to meet your organization's unique needs.       Track 12: Solutions for Ready Mix and Aggregate Fleet Managers

      Explore the progressive range of vehicle hardware and mobile/office software solutions for the construction materials industry, with a strong focus on Ready Mix and Aggregate businesses. Learn how Trimble's Construction Logistics solution portfolio is enabling collaboration, collecting actionable intelligence and facilitating business process automation for increased operational efficiency and valuable return on investment.

  • Civil Infrastructure

    • Sessions in this track will cover a wide variety of topics including solutions for airports, civil engineering, dams, rail, roads and bridges, tunnels and utilities. (Final session information available when the on-line catalog is launched in early September.)
